Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Musikverien)

La Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is based in the music Society. That building is the scene of their performances throughout the year. It is well known for its excellent acoustics, which places it among the top three rooms in the world in terms of loudness.

The building is architecture strongly influenced by ancient Greece (the style was called "Greek Renaissance"). Orpheus on the pediment of the façade, the caryatids and the painting of Apollo and the Muses on the ceiling of the main concert hall, the Ionic columns and the temple ceiling of the Brahms Hall, among other elements give us an idea of the admiration towards the Greek.

It has 7 concert halls. Of these highlights the "Golden Room”(Großer Musikvereinssaal), the largest and most beautiful room in the venue. It has a capacity for 1.744 seated people and 300 stands. It combines its static and stable forms of a rectangular room with exquisite details. The walls and ceiling are arranged in a rhythmic way where the shapes and colors play an interesting game. Thus, for example, the ceiling painting with Apollo and the Muses creates a dynamic counterpoint to the dominant golden tones. Another attractive contrast is the white female sculptures above the balcony doors and the organ, with the gilded caryatids.

There are more than 500 concerts a year of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. It attracts music lovers from all over the world, but it is also very popular with locals as it is an important point of the social life of the city.
