The official currency in Turkey, since 2009, is the Turkish Lira, TL (Turk Lirasi). One Lira is divided into 100 Kuruş (kurush), the cents.

Currently in Turkey there are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Turkish lira banknotes circulating. And coins of 1 Lira and 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 Kuruş.

Both the euro and the dollar are accepted in purchases, but for minor expenses it is better to carry Turkish liras. The approximate change, as of July 2010, is 2 Turkish liras (2TL) per euro and 1,5 liras per dollar.

To make the currency exchange, it is best to do it in private exchange houses that do not charge commission. Banks have a more favorable exchange rate but charge commissions, hotels make the change but are underpriced. The Turkish Lira is a fairly stable currency, so there are no big differences.

International credit cards are accepted in most businesses and with them you can access your bank accounts, from the ATMs of Turkish banks, withdrawing cash in local currency. There are international banks that deliver euros or dollars at some ATMs. Banco Garanti has the ATM menu in Spanish. Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 17:30 p.m.

There is no limit of money to enter, but there is to take out of the country, it is established in US $ 5.000 or equivalent currencies.
