In the western part of Africa the nation of Ivory Coast. Its capital is Yamoussoukro, is located next to Kossou lake, an artificial reservoir that has been built on the Bandama River. Since 1983 it is the administrative capital.
In 2006 its population exceeded 200 thousand inhabitants, most of whom came from the Baoulé ethnic group. However, people of diverse origins coexist in the city.
Among the monuments that stand out most is the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Yamoussoukro. The visitor can also know the Kossou dam and the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Foundation. There is also the mosque, the Protestant temple and the Guest Palace.
In November 2004, the airport of Yamoussoukro suffered an attack by the French infantry, as before the soldiers of the peace corps of the ONU. This attack also destroyed two planes and several helicopters, which were the majority of the state's air forces.
