La province of León It is one of the most representative places of Spain. Its capital city, León, celebrates during the year a great variety of festivities full of Catholic fervor, carnivals, merriment, among others, all being representations of the customs and traditions most important in León.

All the festivals related to religion, for example, are very significant within the city, because not only Catholic faithful they join the celebrations, but also, non-believers as part of their culture.

Within the main customs and traditions that we find in León include:

•The Holy Week. One of the most important dates on the León calendar. During those days we will find that not only processions, liturgies, and tours of churches take place in the city; but also, unusual festivities such as the "burial of Genarín", a festival of pagan origin in homage to Genaro Blanco, a drunken leather tanner and furrier, who died doing his biological needs on the City Wall.

•Round. It is the call of the citizens to carry out the procession of the Steps, which is a recreation of the Calvary of Christ. For this, four members of the Cofradía de Jesús Nazareno take to the streets with their tunics and uncovered faces, playing the clarion, the shearing and the drum for the pilgrimage.

• Parade and Dance of Leonese banners. This is one of the most traditional events in León. The Parade and Dance of Leonese Banners begins in the Plaza de San Marcos and from there a parade is organized that takes place throughout the city center.

• Regional dances of León. We can see a wide demonstration of the main regional dances of León during the patron saint festivities of San Froilán in October. On these dates a stage is usually set up in front of the Palacio de los Guzmanes or the Provincial Council in the Plaza de San Marcelo.

• Nativity scene contest. Every year a nativity scene contest is organized in the Torreblanca Hall. Inside the handmade nativity scenes on display we can see iron, glass, cloth, clay nativity scenes, and even more imaginative ones that reflect an abstract or oriental art.

• Procession of the Steps. As its name says, this procession runs through the historic center of the city and the surrounding places, accompanied by at least four thousand papons or brothers on its way.

• Los Aluches or Lucha Leonesa.
This sport is one of the oldest in Spain and it is known that its origin is pre-Roman. Along with the town's patron saint festivities, the Aluches groups begin to be seen.
