Things you should know before traveling to Turkmenistan

The Climatic and topographic conditions in Turkmenistan can become difficult, as well as the possibility of limited communication. If you plan to make trips and excursions to the desert, do not hesitate to ask for the company of a specialized guide. Tour groups are important for survival with reserves of water, food, fuel and spare parts.

Drink driving is prohibited. Insults and slander against the president and insults to the flag, shield or anthem will be punished with imprisonment for a period of several years or heavy fines. The majority of the population is Muslim. It is recommended to adapt behavior and clothing to local customs.

Places to visit

Ashkabat: Turkmenistan's capital is located in the final stretch of the Karakum desert. Known as the 'City of Love', this is an alternative place to spend a day or two walking the straight streets or visiting the Presidential Palace.

firuza: small city that is located on the border of Iran and Turkey, and that has a great cultural heritage to contemplate all the beauty of the region.

Bakharden: highly recommended to enjoy a cozy weekend, with temperatures reaching 36 degrees and terminal waters to rest as it deserves.

Nebitdag: This is a nice city that is barely 50 years old, very crowded by treasure hunters and the abundance of oil that is in its lands.

Dashhovuz: a city that takes us back to the XNUMXth century of its foundation, with pretty streets full of blocks, a tourist train route and a Soviet heritage.

Hello everyone,
I have read your comments and I can tell you that I lived in this country for many years and I have seen all the places you speak of. Visit the crater in the photos, the locals say that it was the result of poorly done oil drilling, it is impressive. Also visit Mary and Merv, the ancient ruins of the city that was destroyed by the Mongols, Nissa, which was a forward point for caravans before crossing the hills to Persia.
There are some very interesting ruins about 550 km from Ashgabat, between Bugdayli and Kun Dag, of a city that in the 80th century had about XNUMX thousand inhabitants.

Could you tell me about another place of interest, something out of the ordinary, to visit in future trips to that beautiful country? I visited Nisa, Merv (the excavations near Merv in the desert and I don't know what they are called but they are revealing a civilization from 4.000 BC), the famous underground lake, going towards Mary (if I remember correctly) and among other cities , Mary, Ashgabat and Turkmenbashy

Good morning gentleman.

It is a pleasure for us to receive your comments, such as answering that it is located in the middle of the Karakum desert or better known as "The Black Desert" (which you mention), a desert that is quite arid and punished by the sun, in the town of Darvaza which is maintained at the expense of natural gas resources (which makes this crater burn, due to mismanagement in past years of exploitation).

The exact coordinates are: 58º48'26,93" in a north-east direction.
