El Palatine Hill is the very origin of Roma. It stands in front of Coliseum, next to the Forum. A thousand years before Christ it was already populated and, around 750 BC, legend has it that Romulus and Remus were suckled by the she-wolf right there, in the lupercale, and founded the city.

At the time of the Republic it was consolidated as the neighborhood of the ruling class and the richest merchants. Already during the Empire it was the official residence of the emperor, with the establishment of Augustus in the place. Tiberius, Nero and the Flavians, among others, also settled their residences. The whole area was filled with palaces and domus, the homes of powerful Roman families. The House Flavia It was the official and public residence of the emperors. The Domus Augustana, the private residence of the emperor.

We can appreciate the archaeological remains in the shape of a circus of the great palatine stadium, which Domitian had built to celebrate competitions and festivals. Also the remains of the Livia's house, which was a rich private residence from the XNUMXst century BC.

El Palatine Museum It is small but exhibits sculptures, frescoes, mosaics and other finds from the site, along with a reproduction of an XNUMXth century home. As the excavation work is still going on, the opening of new areas is expected.

La Entrance is included in the Colosseum, for the same day. We must take this into account to organize the two tours in the same day, think that seeing the Palatino takes a long time and it is convenient to bring food.
