Madrid y Barcelona are the two most important cities of Spain and as such, the visitor has a wide range of places of interest and leisure in it. They reflect the passing of history in their architecture and urban planning, and yet there is another aspect that should be highlighted, such as their respective geographical location. This allows us to visit nearby places that are recesses of a period, the Middle Ages, which both cities cannot offer to the visitor.

Surrounded by medieval walls, this city is located approximately 120 kilometers from Madrid (Accommodation here) and it is famous for the veal of the sierra. For anyone in love with meat, the ribeye from the sierra is a gift. On the way to Avila he finds the Escorial, palace built by Felipe II on the outskirts of Madrid.

Toledo
Toledo is a magical city, in which history is breathed. For years, the seat of the Castilian court, it was an example of the coexistence of the three cultures that shared the Iberian peninsula in the Middle Ages, the Christian, Muslim and Jewish. Recurring theme in the work of El Greek, is located just over an hour from Madrid.

Cuenca
This city, famous for the hanging houses, is located approximately 2 and a half hours from Madrid. Given its beauty, the city and its natural surroundings are well worth the effort. It is even worth not returning to Madrid at night and spending the night in one of the Cuenca hotels to return the next day to minimize the impact of the journey.

BARCELONA

Girona
Just over an hour and a quarter by car from Barcelona (find accommodation in Barcelona) Girona is located. The old houses are reflected in the river and fill the view with pastel colors. In recent years the reconstruction of the wall has been completed and it now surrounds the old city in what has been called the Passeig de la Muralla.

A beautiful medieval city approximately two hours from Barcelona and one from Girona, this hilltop city is a great example of medieval urban architecture in northern Spain.
