The official currency of Belgium is the euro. As in all the countries of the euro zone, the banknotes are the same as those minted in other countries, while the coins have their differences. One side is the same for all and the other is chosen by each country. In the case of Belgium, its national side shows the effigy of the King Albert II and the royal monogram. The coin also includes the twelve stars of the EU and the year of issue.

The coins have a circulation of 3 series, in each series slight modifications were made to the design. The first series is that of the years 1999 to 2007, the second series in 2008, and the third series in 2009.

The coins are 1 and 2 euros and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 euro cent. There are 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 euro bills.

The credit cards that are accepted in the country are diverse: MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Visa. Before traveling, ask the company that issued the card about the possibilities you have of using it in stores or hotels in Belgium.

The exchange rate, according to the exchange rate as of September 25, 2009: 1 Belgian euro is equivalent to 1.47 US dollars. Please note that there are no restrictions on importing euros or currency. Bank hours are Monday through Friday from 09:00 to 16:00. Traveller's checks are accepted in various purchasing establishments.
