El Episcopal Palace of Lugo stands on the Santa María Square, facing the north facade of the Cathedral, in the old town, forming one of the most beautiful areas of the city. It is a palace of rural airs with the noble packaging that gives it the typical Galician granite facade.

This baroque-style building was erected in the eighteenth century on the same site that occupied an old late Gothic palace from the late XNUMXth century that was destroyed by fire. Some parts of that old building were used for the new construction, among them the pediment that stands out on the roof.

A modern stone staircase gives us access to the front door which presents the shield of Bishop Caetano Gil Taboada who saw the work finish. The whole complex is presided over by the coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs who stayed here as they passed through Lugo, as did other royal visits that passed through the city.

It currently houses the dependencies of the Diocese of Lugo.
