El Vecchio Palace he was known as the Palace of the Signoria. It is located in the historic center, in the Signoria Square, and is the headquarters of Florence Town Hall and a symbol of civil power since its construction at the end of the XNUMXth century.

Its external appearance is that of a fortress, typical of Italian Gothic palaces. We can highlight the presence of a frieze with the heraldic shields along the façade and the profusion of sculptures that are exposed at the doors of the palace. From its 95-meter tower, the highest in the city, the population was warned by bells, fires, floods or attacks.

In the XNUMXth century Vasari carried out a major remodeling of the interior that significantly modified it. Another of the jewels is the Studiolo of Francisco I, cabinet of the Grand Duke that Vasari decorated with allegories of man's dominion over the elements of nature.
