La Plaza of Spain is in the entrance of the highway from Ourense to the city of Vigo. It is a square that organizes the transit of vehicles at the entrance to the city, through several lanes organized around it.

The square is between the city center and the port, the railway station and Gran Vía.
The Plaza de España has a large diameter and is dominated by a monument that has become a symbol of the city of Vigo.

El monument of Los Caballos (The Cabalos, in Galician) was made in 1991 by the sculptor Juan José Oliveira Viéitez. It is about five horses that ascend a torrent of water in a spiral. The monument, made of bronze, is almost 20 meters high and plays with the curves and expressive power of animals. At the foot of the sculpture there is a pond 10 meters in diameter.

The sculpture aims to pay tribute to the wild horses that populated the Castro mount in ancient times and that can still be found today in the mountains around the city.
