In a report presented by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC, it is stated that Uruguay is having serious difficulties to reduce poverty. Despite this, it remains in the region as one of the countries with the lowest levels of poverty.
The report realizes that Uruguay in 2008 it had met the United Nations Millennium Goals. And that this year was going to be difficult because of the economic crisis that the world is experiencing, so Uruguay you are not exempt from this problem. The South American government has been carrying out social programs to solve the difficulties faced by its poorest population.
The objective of the programs is to help low-income families. And include those families that in 2008 were not benefited with the help of the State. One of these programs is the Alimentary Card, which is a mechanism for monetary transfers to the neediest people. For the Uruguayan State to meet its objectives, ECLAC made some recommendations so that social programs truly reach the poorest in the country.
