El Zafra castle, located in Campillo de Dueñas, it is possibly one of the castles with the best panoramic view it will offer us since it is located at more than XNUMX meters of altitude. This fortress was built between the XXI and XIII centuries and provided protection to the capital of Señorío de Molina.
How to get to the Castle of Zafra?
Located at the top of the municipality of Campillo de Dueñas, the Castle of Zafra is part of the historic and mythical medieval tour of the Castles of Castile. The best way to get to the Castle, since it is private property, is by leaving Dueñas through Caldereros -in addition, here we can take a walk full of landscapes that will mix between ruins and green vegetation-, until we glimpse the castle on the rocks of the great Vega de Zafra.
What to see in the castle?
When visiting the Castle of Zafra we can only see remains of what were once stone walls and walls that formed fences and towers, however, with a little imagination we can recognize its splendor.
Among the spaces that we can still see is the right tower, some walls and part of the main vault. In addition, there is the parade ground, which we can access from the keep (the same one that has currently been 90% restored). We will have the best landscape from the upper terrace.
Finally, we give you as extra information about this castle, that the rock on which it stands was carved by hand by the villagers, with the aim of always keeping it upright over the valley even when the years fell on it.
