La Basilica of san marco It is located in the homonymous square of Venice. Built in the XNUMXth century to house the remains of Saint Mark, who were stolen from Alexandria by Venetian merchants.

Combined Gothic, Roman and Byzantine elements are recognized in its construction. It has undergone two reconstructions throughout its life. And since the XNUMXth century it has been known as the Church of Gold.

Converted into the city's Cathedral in 1807. It has a Latin cross plan with five domes and a large central dome. The interior is dominated by the golden color, with over 4.000 square meters of mosaics from the 500th century on the main dome, and XNUMX columns from the XNUMXrd century.
