The Monastery or Concento de Santa Maria da Vitória, better known as the Batalha Monastery, was ordered to be built by King Juan I of Portugal (1357-1433) as thanks for divine help and as a celebration of victory in the Battle of Aljubarrota, happened in August 1385.
