In 1861 the Glass museum on the island of Murano, quickly grew a lot with the donations, of past centuries and of the manufacturers with their modern creations.

The exact origin of the art of glass in Venice, but we do know that it is a true art that they dominate.

In the Glass Museum we can take a tour through the history of its elaboration and see archaeological pieces of very high value. In this collection, arranged chronologically, you will find pieces from the Roman period, samples of glass from the Old Egypt and Phoenician jars. Among the more than 4.000 pieces on display, the most notable are a chandelier weighing 330 kilos and the famous Barovier wedding cup, cobalt blue with polychrome enamels.

The evolution of the elaboration technique can be seen in works of contemporary origin. Among them, the Bárbaro plate (1914), a glass mosaic created by Zecchin and the works of Martinuzzi, from 1926.

La entry to the Museum is € 6,50 and the reduced rate is € 4. It is included inside the card Museum Pass. It can be visited from November to March between 10 a.m. and 17 p.m., and from April to October between 10 a.m. and 18 p.m. On Wednesdays it is closed. The visit to this Museum is highly recommended.
