In the Isabel la Católica Square, in the center of the Moorish area of ​​the city, is the Granada Cathedral. Built by order of the Queen in 1507, originally thought as a Gothic building. His project was modified to Renaissance, reaching the level of purism that stands out. At present it is considered the first Renaissance church in Spain.

It has a quadrangular plan with five naves separated by classical columns. Inside the Capilla Mayor, for its size and style, and where the dome has a preponderant place. All the side chapels contain works of art of the highest value. The Royal chapel, guards the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs. In the Chapter Room the Treasury is exposed.

The façade of the Cathedral has a structure in the shape of a triumphal arch, formed by three axes crowned with semicircular arches on pilasters. With sculpted marble medallions and sculptures by Duque Cornejo, Risueño and Verdiguier. Only one of the two planned towers was built.

It opens from Monday to Saturday from 10:45 a.m. to 13:30 p.m. and from 16 to 20 p.m. On Sundays and religious holidays it opens between 16 p.m. and 20 p.m. Tickets cost € 3,50.
