Located in the Highlands o Highlands of Scotland, this is a vast and deep freshwater lake stretching up to 37 kilometers southwest of Inverness. It is part of a series of interconnected lakes in Scotland that were carved out by glaciers during previous ice ages.
Is the second largest lake in Scotland with a surface area of 56,4 km. and of greater volume also due to its depth.
Famous for the myth of Loch Ness Monster, or Nessi, as they call it familiarly, the inhabitants affirm that a creature hides in its dark waters, which tourists do not hesitate to search with boats, crossing the entire lake.
In its most south-western part is Fort Augustus and beyond it Cherry Island, the oldest artificial island, dating from the Iron Age.
