El Secession Building en Vienna it is a showroom and architectural manifesto of the so-called “secessionist group” - a group made up of the rebellious artists of the Austrian fine arts institution. It was they who contributed much of the funds for its construction.

The building has quite a risky architecture even by today's standards. Its most striking feature is the dome made of gilded bronze in the shape of a leaf litter, which contrasts sharply with its art deco façade. Garlands of laurel leaves decorate the exterior, and the masks of the three gorgons preside over the entrance, symbolizing the three art forms: architecture, sculpture and painting. You can also read the secessionist motto: "Der Zeit ihre Kunst, der Kunst ihre Freiheit" (To each time his art, to each art his freedom).

El Pavilion specializes in contemporary art. Artists often change the exterior of the building by adding sculpture and altering the lighting. The highlight of the place is the Beethoven Frieze, made by Gustav Klimt and one of the most recognized pieces of art of the secessionist style. To the right of the building is a bronze statue of Mark Antony, the work of Arthur Strasser. The Roman general is shown in it as a lazy and decadent being, perhaps in reference to the mood of the end of the XNUMXth century.

The entrance price to the exhibitions is 4,50 euros. To see the exhibition and the Beethoven Frieze, you pay 6 euros. He Secession Building It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
