Television tower or in German the Fernsehturm, It is located in the center of Berlin Germany.
Walter Ulbricht, leader of the Unified Socialist Party, ruler of the GDR (German Democratic Republic), decided to build a television tower on Alexanderplatz. It was built in 1969 as a symbol of East Berlin. From the antenna you get a panoramic view of the entire city.
The height of the Fernsehturm is 368 meters. It is the fourth tallest building in Europe. At its peak are the viewpoint and the restaurant, within a large sphere. The restaurant rotates 360 degrees every half hour. There are two elevators that take people to the sphere in less than 50 seconds.
The tower attracts many tourists with an average of one million visitors arriving each year. When the sun reflects the sphere, which is a stainless steel dome, a cross pattern is formed. This was not foreseen by anyone. The socialist state practices atheism, and to joke people began to call this phenomenon the Revenge of the Pope. Even the tower is called by some Saint Walter, referring to Walter Ulbricht.
