Wat Suthat Thepwararam is a royal temple of the first degree. It was the intention of King Rama I to make a temple as large as Wat Phanan Choeng and to install a large image of the Buddha named Phra Sri Sakyamuni that had been brought down from the magnificent Wihan of Wat Mahathat in Sukhothai.

King Rama II was unable to complete the temple and it was during the reign of King Rama III that the Wihan was finished and he added many more buildings all over the temple. He gave the name to the Buddha image of the magnificent Wihan. The renovation of the temple occurred in the reign of King Rama V. You have all the information in: «Trip to thailand«.
